Savoury Breakfast Oats

If you’ve read my blog post titled Sweet Vs. Savoury Breakfast, you’ll know that I mostly stick to savoury breakfast options these days.  Many of my breakfasts involve eggs, I love eggs, but wanted to come up with some breakfast options for those who aren’t egg fans (although, if you are an egg fan then pop a poached egg on top of the oats, it’s amazing!)

Savoury breakfast oats are an alternative to the traditionally sweetened breakfast porridge.  They’re ideal for those who are trying to avoid sweet breakfast options, but enjoy oats for a satisfying start to the day.  Top these oats with a poached egg, or some nutritious seeds for an eggless option.

Personally, I save this breakfast for busy days or heavy training days, when I’m in need of carbs at breakfast.  I also sometimes eat savoury breakfast oats for lunch, or for a post-training refuel when I train early.

Serves 1;

  • 50g oats
  • 200ml water
  • 50ml milk
  • 1 slice of bacon
  • 4 mushrooms
  • 1 spring onion
  • 2 hanfuls of spinach
  • A knob of butter
  • Salt and pepper
  • Toppings: poached egg, seeds
