Strawberry and Raspberry Chia “Jam”

Chia seeds have huge nutritional benefits, providing all of the essential amino acids and therefore being a complete source of protein.  They are also rich in fiber, antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids.

Chia seeds have become a popular addition to recipes, due to their gel-forming properties when in liquid.  This means they can replace thickening agents in recipes, and will help to keep you fuller for longer.

This clean jam recipe requires no addition of sugar, although a sweetener such as maple syrup or honey can be added if the fruit is too tarte.  In the summer months however, when British strawberries are at their sweetest, I don’t usually add any form of sweetener.

To make the jam, blend 400g of strawberries, 100g of raspberries, and 2-3 tbsp of chia seeds in a food processor image

Heat in a saucepan on a medium heat until the jam begins to bubble, then lower the heat and simmer the jam for 5-6 minutes

Place the jam in a jar and keep in the fridge

The jam should last at least 5-7 days if kept in the fridge
